Privacy Policy
Last updated: 20 September 2026
This privacy policy explains how Mark The Sweep collects, uses and protects your personal data when you contact us, use our website, or use our chimney sweeping and related services.
Who we are
Mark The Sweep is a sole trader based at 47 Shortheath Crest, Farnham, Surrey, GU9 8SB. For the purposes of UK data protection law, Mark The Sweep is the data controller responsible for your personal data.
If you have any questions about this policy or how your data is handled, you can contact us at info@markthesweep.co.uk.
The personal data we collect
We collect the following types of personal data:
Contact details, including your name, email address, telephone number and property address, when you get in touch through our website contact form, by phone, by SMS or by email.
Enquiry and job information, including details of the service you have requested, any message or file you send us through the contact form, and notes relating to appointments and work carried out.
Payment information. Where you pay for a service by bank transfer, we will see your name and bank account details as they appear on the transaction. We do not collect or store card details, as we do not use a card payment processor.
We do not run any marketing mailing lists, so we do not hold data for marketing purposes.
CCTV chimney inspections
Where we carry out a CCTV chimney inspection, the resulting video and report are provided directly to you. We do not keep a copy or otherwise store this footage after the inspection.
How we collect your data
We collect personal data directly from you, through the contact form on our website, by telephone, by SMS, or by email.
Our website contact form uses Google reCAPTCHA to help prevent spam and automated abuse. This means some technical data, such as your IP address, may be processed by Google in line with Google's own privacy policy when you use the form.
Why we use your data and our legal basis for doing so
We use your personal data to respond to your enquiry, to arrange and carry out chimney sweeping and related services, to send you appointment confirmations or reminders by SMS, to process payment for our services, and to keep basic administrative and financial records of work carried out.
Our legal basis for this processing is:
Performance of a contract, where we are arranging or carrying out a service you have asked for.
Legitimate interests, where we are responding to an enquiry or keeping administrative records, and this does not unfairly affect your rights.
Legal obligation, where we are required to keep certain financial records for HM Revenue and Customs purposes.
How we store your data
Customer and job records are kept in paper form. As Mark works alone, access to these records is limited to Mark, and they are kept securely.
General customer and job records are retained for three years.
Financial and payment records, including bank transfer payment details, are retained for six years, in line with our legal obligation to keep financial records for HM Revenue and Customs purposes.
Sharing your data
We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties for their own marketing purposes. Your data may be processed by the following third parties in the course of providing our website:
Google, through the reCAPTCHA service used on our contact form.
GoDaddy, who host our website and provide the cookie notice shown on it.
Where these providers are based outside the UK, they may process data outside the UK as part of their own services. You can find further detail on this in Google's and GoDaddy's own privacy policies.
Cookies
Our website uses cookies to help understand website traffic, as set out in the cookie notice shown when you visit the site. You can choose to accept or decline these cookies.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to ask us for access to the personal data we hold about you, to ask us to correct inaccurate data, to ask us to delete your data, to ask us to restrict how we use your data, and to object to certain uses of your data. To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at info@markthesweep.co.uk.
